In planetary ball mill, why the powder sticks to the balls and inner wall of jars after grinding?
The metallic powders deforms during grinding because of cold work deformation and residual stresses especially when the surface area is high( Nano sized powders). And temperature inside the jar will arise causing powder to stick on the surface of the balls and the inner wall. So we can try to:
To reduce the volume percent of the powder.( ductile metals like Cu tends to deform more than brittle metals)
To choose a suitable running program during grinding, like running for 10mins and off for 10mins to reduce the temperature
To try wet grinding
To try the 360 degree lab planetary ball mill.
